Christian Unity – What is it?

One of my favorite bloggers, who also happens to be my pastor, has been talking a lot about Christian Unity lately.  What, exactly, does that mean?  What does it look like?

I have participated in several online ecumenical fellowships, which are not very unified.  Most I no longer participate in because the oneupmanship was downright disgusting.

You need to come to my church because we’re the only ones who worship right!

Come to my church because we’re the only ones not going to hell!

Only my church does things the way God intended!

We are all members of the same body.  And as such, we need to stop arguing.  How does it look if a family is at a restaurant arguing non-stop?  Is it a pretty sight?  Is it something you want to see time and again?

Neither do the lost want to see us constantly arguing.

Do you believe in the grace and mercy of the cross?  Do you believe in the resurrected Lord?  Then what else is there?  So what if we use instruments and they have a priest?  Our belief is the same.  Christ crucified, Christ resurrected.

Thank God for His mercy and grace.  And thank him for our brothers and sisters who love Him like we do.

One Response to Christian Unity – What is it?

Excellent thoughts. It is sad to hear about some of the disunity within the church. It is refreshing to sometimes see different churches in the area actually work together, serve people, and serve God. Thanks for this post!
